Dear AYSO Region 76 Community,

We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy. Please support each other as a community by respecting Federal, State, County, and local public health guidelines to safely move us forward and back onto the field.

As we said last month, we will be providing regular updates on where we currently stand with regard to our program. We are working hard both in terms of planning and in obtaining a permit from the City of Beverly Hills to run a youth sports program this Fall. While we remain cautiously optimistic, we have not yet received a permit. However, both the State and LA County have issued public health orders since our last message that provide guidance on what would and would not be permitted. While we don’t know when we will open, we can at least provide you the outlines of what our Fall program is likely to look like if we do obtain a permit.

First and foremost, to remain compliant with public health orders, we will not be able to conduct either games or scrimmages between now and the end of this calendar year. While this news is, of course, disappointing we continue to believe that it is important for our Region to provide opportunities for the kids in our community to get outside, exercise, and have fun safely.

Our Fall program will therefore focus on the following:

  • Weekly skills training and conditioning.
  • Registered players will be broken up into teams (called cohorts in public health orders) by age group and gender as we normally do.
  • All staff, volunteer and paid, as well as children and families will be required to wear a face covering at all times.
  • We will be limiting the number of people present at a field so as to facilitate maintaining the appropriate social distancing.
  • Players will be conducting their training while maintaining this distancing.
  • There will be no sharing of equipment, so each player must bring their own ball and water bottle.
  • Parents will drop off their children at the start of the session, at which point we will temperature check the player and ask if they have any symptoms or have been exposed to anybody who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • At the end of the session, parents will drive up and pick up their children.

For those of you who have already registered for our Fall 2020 program, we will maintain your registration as active and give you priority for when we can safely resume, both for skills training and games when we can do those.

If you end up deciding that you do not wish to participate this Fall, you can either request a refund or roll it over to next year and avoid the fee increase that is likely to come. All of us are committed to providing a safe and healthy program that enables the kids in our community to get much needed physical activity. We will continue to work closely with both the City of Beverly Hills and BHUSD on options and planning and will continue to keep you informed of developments once we have concrete details to pass along.

As relayed previously, until we are able to safely reopen even a partial program, we will continue to develop videos to share with you on our Region 76 YouTube channel so as to provide guidance on activities and training that your kids can do at home either on their own or with parents’ help. If you have any ideas or suggestions on things we can include there, please let us know.

Thank you for understanding and let’s continue to be a positive community, supporting each other, and working towards our common goals.
