Post-Season

Frequently Asked Questions

AYSO post-season involves competitive play beyond the regular season, including All-Star teams, Tournament teams, League Playoffs, and the Extra Program. All-Star teams and tournament teams are selected by coaches and the post-season committee and compete in a series of tournaments and/or a Spring League program, while League Playoffs select the top core teams from a region for a competitive tournament. The Extra program offers a more competitive, year-round option.

What Are The Types of Post-Season Programs?

All-Star

  • Teams are formed by the Post-Season Committee, with input from the coaches. Players are selected from among players playing on Fall Core teams.
  • Play typically starts in the winter and involves a series of tournaments.
  • Our most competitive program offered for our Core program players in the Post-Season.

Tournament Teams

  • Teams are formed by the Post-Season Committee, with input from the coaches. Players are selected from among players playing on Fall Core teams only AFTER All-Star teams are selected.
  • Play typically starts in the winter and involves a select number of tournaments combined with Spring League play.
  • We will attempt to form as many additional tournament teams in Region 76 as we have players and coaches for. The purpose of tournament teams is to keep players in Region 76 playing year round and to give as many players the Post-Season experience as possible.

When are Tryouts for Post-Season?

The tryout dates and times for Extra can be found on our Region 76 Tryout Registration Page. Tryouts listed are open to all players registered in Region 76. There will be two tryouts for some age groups. Second tryouts may be by invitation only. Teams will be formed a few weeks after tryouts. All attendees will be notified once a team roster has been finalized.

My Social Calendar is all full! What if I can't make the first evaluation???

The players are constantly being evaluated by the Post Season Committee. We are referees, coaches, and board members and have been watching the players play, parents referee and sideline behavior. We will continue doing that until the rosters have been finalized. The evaluations just give us an additional opportunity to see your child play. There will be other opportunities for evaluations by invitation, just let your coaches know you are interested in Post-Season play.

When is Post Season?

Post season typically begins in December with the Region 76 Sportsmanship Cup and runs through May or June, depending on the program the team has selected and the tournaments the team has applied for.

What are the Costs Associated with Post-Season?

Registration fees for a Post-Season team will range between $800 and $950. This includes uniforms, tournaments applications, all league games in the Spring season, and professional skills training. Any unused funds left over in the team account are refunded to families at the end of the season.

Is There a Volunteer Obligation?

Yes! All families on a Post-Season team are expected to volunteer for the team and the Region. The primary way families are expected to volunteer is by volunteering as a Referee. We are required to provide referees when we attend tournaments, so there is obviously a slight advantage for players whose families volunteer as referees in the selection process.

How Many Tournaments do Post-Season Teams Participate In?

There is no limit but most teams play between 4-7 tournaments in the Spring. Depending on what type of team is formed and the age of the team, this number will vary.
