How do you determine a player's age? AYSO utilizes a so-called “birth year” registration. Under birth year registration, division is determined solely based on a player’s date of birth, so for example, all players born in 2010 will be in the same age group, regardless of whether they were born in January, 2010 or December, 2010, and also regardless of whether they’re in the same grade at school. The birth year registration system complies with the new guidelines of U.S. Soccer, the governing body of soccer in the U.S.
What if my child’s birth year now places him/her with children who are mostly in a higher grade? Can we move him/her down? As a rule, AYSO does not allow move-downs to a division below a player’s age group. We may, on a case by case basis, consider move-down requests based on grade, but only for players age 7 or younger. All such requests must be made no later than July 31 in order to be considered.

Why are you changing your refund policy? Every player registration fee includes a $20 fee that we pay to the AYSO National organization. This year, AYSO National has handed down the decision that this $20 fee will be non-refundable with no exceptions. We do not agree with this policy and will continue to fight it. But since our region will be responsible for this $20 per player fee, even for players who cancel before participating, we too are making $20 of every registration non-refundable. We will make exceptions for those players we’re unable to place on a team.
Why is the registration deadline earlier this year? This year our main registration period will end July 31. After that, all players will be waitlisted. Some players registered after July 31 might still be placed on a team, but we will not guarantee placement for anyone who registers after this date. Late registrations make it very difficult to manage our team formation in the run-up to the fall season, and it is our hope that registering players earlier will improve the process.
