Scrimmage Day 2006
Scrimmage Day Information for Coaches and Teams
Dear Scrimmage Day coaches:
SCHEDULES FOR U10 TEAMS HAVE BEEN POSTED.
We have so many teams signed up for U12 and U14 that we are organizing another field to accommodate everyone. We will know more this evening (Sunday Feb 26) and we will then post the schedules. Please bear with us.
Here is information for this year's Scrimmage Day, to be held on Sunday March 5, 2006.

1. Scrimmage Day Basics
Scrimmage Day is organized by AYSO Region 76 (Beverly Hills) with help and fields from Regions 20 (Santa Monica) and 69 (Pacific Palisades). It is open to U10, U12 and U14 teams. It is NOT a tournament. There are no prizes for wins, no coaches' gifts, no formal check-in, no roster size limitations, no rules about borrowing players from other regions, no special rules about goalkeepers, in fact, almost none of the paperwork and requirements of a traditional tournament. It is an informal day of games. The one requirement is that you sign up on-line and bring with you a set of registration forms/medical releases which should be presented for inspection on request. This is for the safety of the players.
Although we are keeping bureaucracy to a minimum, please cooperate with the referees and the regional officials who are there to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
2. The Games
Game lengths are full length or as close as our scheduling will allow. Quarter breaks half way through each half. Everyone Plays still applies - you must insure that all of your players play 2 quarters of the game.
Schedule: Please check the schedule on-line - it will be posted a few days before the event. We will post the schedule and any changes on-line. We will notify you personally (by phone) if your schedule changes after Thursday at 6 pm on March 2. Any changes before that time will be posted but we will NOT call you.
THE SCHEDULE WILL BE VERY TIGHT - there are just 10 minutes of downtime per game slot, including before and after the game and at halftime: BE READY TO START THE MINUTE THE PREVIOUS GAME FINISHES. DON'T TREAT A QUARTER BREAK AS IF IT WERE HALF TIME. THE CLOCK WILL BE RUNNING AT ALL TIMES - NO STOPPAGE FOR INJURIES OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON.
We do expect all the teams to shake hands in the traditional manner after each game. And GU10 teams are all proud of their opponents and so tunnels will be just fine!! Just move it along so we can get the next game started on time.
3. Fields
Games will be played at Horace Mann School (U10) and El Rodeo School (U12). We are lining up other fields for U12 and U14.
We ask that you ensure your team cleans up all the trash you find on or around the field. We will make sure there are lots of lined trash bins or boxes.
4. Referees
We do ask that you provide as many referees as you can. We would like to have full referee teams if possible.
5. Fun and Food
We want to emphasize that this day is about fun and friendship. Pizza will be served at intervals from late morning to mid afternoon. Ice cream and drinks will also be provided for the players, coaches, referees and, to be honest, there's usually enough for parents as well.
We would like to ask that the teams stick around for pizza and ice cream and that they sit together after their game. Please encourage mingling and not just grabbing the food and running off to your own corner. Coaches, too, come and meet and get to know your opposite numbers.
If we are really organized, we may get coffee and baked goods in the early morning - in fact, if anyone would like to volunteer to help with this, please contact me.
6. Money
Scrimmage Day is free. However, we are asking for voluntary contributions of $5 per player to help cover the cost of the food. Cash is preferred but if you would prefer to write a check, make it payable AYSO Region 76. Bring the cash or the check with you and if someone asks you for it, they are probably the right person! Region 76 will pick up the cost of any food over and above your contributions.
7. Health and Safety
We of course hope that everyone will be safe and injury-free. However, if anyone needs medical attention, the administrators at the fields will have the phone numbers of the local paramedics. In addition, we encourage you to bring a first aid kit.
Referees or administrators will inspect the teams and they will be instructed that there is a zero jewelry rule in effect, which cannot be waived except for medical bracelets.
See you all on the Match 5.
