A
Letter from Your Board
Dear AYSO Families:
We, the senior members of Region 76 of
American Youth Soccer Organization in Beverly Hills, are writing to you in
the wake of the tragic and terrifying events this past Tuesday because we
believe you should hear from us on a number of points:
First and most important, each of us has
been deeply and personally affected by what has happened. We learned today
that the mother of one our key volunteers was aboard one of the downed
aircraft. We have no doubt that other families in our region and area have
suffered losses and injuries to family members, friends, or colleagues. We
barely know how to express the sorrow that all of our soccer community
feels for those victims we know and those we never did know.
Second, we have had to make a difficult
decision on whether the soccer games scheduled for this weekend should be
played. We have made the decision that they should. As our nation
struggles back to its feet, we believe that we should not hand the
terrorists one further victory by depriving our children of healthy
recreational activity.
In making our decision, we think it very,
very important that everyone understands that we have not forgotten and we
will not forget what has happened. Therefore, we request that, before each
game this weekend, the coaches and the referees lead the players and
spectators in a full minute of silence. We hope each of you will take that
moment to reflect and give your thoughts to the victims, the survivors and
the heroic rescuers.
We will completely understand if your
beliefs or personal circumstances are such that you decide that your child
should not attend this weekend. We ask only that you inform your coach
ahead of time. If you are a coach, we ask that you make sure that if not
you, then someone other responsible parent take charge of the team.
God Bless America.
With best wishes,
Lance Roth, Regional Commissioner
Jane Courtland, Assistant Regional Commissioner
Terry Leuin, Assistant Regional Commissioner
Marc Axelrod, Referee Administrator
John Heidt, Division Director
Harry Markowitz, Director of Referee Instruction
Lisya Mizrahi, Treasurer
Sharel Rolnick, Registrar
Scott Serden, Safety Director
Michael Sun, Coach Administrator
Michael Karlin, Webmaster and Former Regional Commissioner
