All Star and Tournament History
You should also check out our Kalamazoo Diary (1996) and the Hawaii 2002 pages which recount our teams' participation in the AYSO National Games of those years.
2003/2004
The All Star season began with our U10, U12, U14 and U16 teams at the Cerritos Thanksgiving tournament. Our GU16 tournament, made up from 18 players from the three teams, won their division in double overtime. Go Hills!
One of our three GU16 league teams, coached by Rachel Marks, won the Area tournament.
Our most successful teams have been our GU10 All Star team (fourth in the Section) and our GU16 tournament team, which has won several tournaments, including at Cerritos and Thousand Oaks.
2002/2003
Jeff
Pop and his GU14 All Star team won the Area. The dynasty
continues!

CONGRATULATIONS to the BU12 All Star team, which placed 1st out of 16 teams at the Cerritos Thanksgiving Tournament. The team won all six games it played, including an exciting quarterfinal game against a very strong team from Arcadia. In that game, the Beverly Hills team was down 2-0 for most of the game. In the last few minutes of the game, the team came back and tied the score, forcing the game to a shootout. Beverly Hills won the shootout, moving on to the semi-finals and ultimately the championship game. Throughout the weekend the BU12 team demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship - which resulted in the team being awarded the tournament's sportsmanship award! See a picture of the team
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR UPPER DIVISION TEAMS WHO PLACED IN THE AREA PLAYOFFS the weekend of November 16 and 17. BU19 (Minars) finished 3rd, the two GU19 teams finished 2nd (Karlin) and 4th (Sun) and the two GU16 teams finished 6th (Willmer/Trangsrud) and 7th (Woods).

Beverly Hills Sportsmanship Cup
The Sportsmanship Cup, held on December 28 and 29 (girls) and January 2 and 3 (boys), was
a tremendous success. We lost 9 games to field conditions at Roxbury Park but
otherwise the tournament was a wonderful success enjoyed by all and producing comeptetive
soccer in a marvelous atmosphere. Congratulations to Viviane Tondeur (tournament
director) and Lance Roth (assistant tournament director) and to all who volunteered to
help for a great job well done.
UCLA Thanksgiving 1997
At Thanksgiving, our teams will be playing at UCLA again and we are hosting the Sportsmanship Cup for Divisions 3, 4 and 5 - a different kind of tournament.
Our first day at UCLA was a mixed bag - 3 wins, 1 tie and five losses. Two of the wins came from what looks like a very deep Boys 5 team. The other came in Boys 4, which won one and lost one; Girls 5 tied 0-0, then lost a squeaker 1-0 to Santa Monica. Boys 3, Girls 3 and Girls 4 both lost once.
On Saturday, another mixed bag, with the G4 team showing some improvement, the B3 having a frustrating time with a ton of shots and little to show for it. B5 was the only team to make it to the Sunday playoffs.
Finally, on Sunday, a downpour. B5 played in drenching rain and made it to the final against North Hills, but the final was rained off.
The Selection Process
Tournament teams for the Thanksgiving tournament at UCLA are selected in early November. We want everyone to be comfortable that the selection process is fair. The procedures are fairly uniform but we allow some discretion for the Division Directors to allow for individual differences in divisions, especially the size, which tends to mean that the largest divisions (Boys U12 (4) and U10 (5)) need a greater level of input from the Division Director than the smaller ones.
Everyone should understand that there are three separate selection processes:
First, we pick teams for Thanksgiving.
Second, we pick teams for the Section 1 Area P All Star tournament (and Section and Tri-Section tournaments, if we make it that far). This team may well also participate in a tournament just before or after New Year.
Third, following the All Star tournament, most team continue to play and they may take any age eligible player who played during the regular season. Unlike the All Star tournament, players who played up a division may be eligible, depending on the rules of the particular tournament, to play in the tournament team for which they are eligible. Check with the team coach.
1996/7 The Beat Goes On!
We hosted a Free Scrimmage Tournament for Girls 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday January 18 and 19.

Boys and Girls Divisions 3, 4 and 5 played at the Thanksgiving tournament at UCLA. The Boys 4 team were the winners of their group, Girls 4 lost 2-1 in a close final and the other teams did well, the Boys 5 team being eliminated by conceding a last kick goal in the third and final first round game and the Girls 3 team losing on goals allowed by 1 (the second tiebreaker after head to head competition).
Our Boys 4 won the Tri-Section Championship in March. This is as far as an All Star team can go in California, with the three Sections covering the southern two-thirds of California. There are over 200,000 players in the three Sections! This is the second year in a row that a Beverly Hills team won the Tri-Section final. Congratulations to Cliff and David. More about the games in our News Page, where you can find a link to a team photograph.
1995/6 - We Had a Blast!
Our 1995 All Star teams had an excellent post-season.
Tournament teams in Boys and Girls Divisions 3, 4 and 5 played at the AYSO tournament sponsored by UCLA Women's Soccer at Thanksgiving. Congratulations to Boys 3 and Girls 3 (Team 1), winners of the tournament.
Our Boys 3 and 5 All Stars won our area playoffs, Girls 3 was runner up, Girls 4 finished third and Boys 4 and Girls 5 finished fourth. All the teams went on to other tournaments in California as well as Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona and Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the Girls 4 team, together with four players from Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys and one from Hollywood/Wilshire, won the championship of the AYSO National Games. You can read about the Girls 4 team's adventures in our Kalamazoo Diary. Congratulations to all.
Our Boys 3 went on to win the Tri-Section Championship in a thrilling contest in March. This is as far as an All Star team can go in California, with the three Sections covering the southern two-thirds of California. There are over 150,000 players in the three Sections! No Beverly Hills team has ever progressed to the Tri-Section final and this team won it in thanks to an all around team effort.
Our League Champion and All Star teams were recognized by Beverly Hills City Council at a ceremony on February 20. Thanks to Councilmember Tom Levyn, whose daughter Stacey played on the Girls 5 team!
